ARTIST STATEMENT:

Annton Beate Schmidt malt Porträts von Frauen und von den Geschichten dahinter. Sie lebt und arbeitet in einem kleinen Dorf in Brandenburg. Ihre Erfahrungen als behinderte Künstlerin, fließen nicht nur in ihre Arbeiten ein, sondern sind auch Grund für ihr starkes Engagement für eine diverse Gesellschaft.

Annton Beate Schmidt paints portraits of women. And she tells the stories behind. She lives and works in a tiny village in Brandenburg. Her experiences as a disabled artist influence not only her body of work, but are also the reason for her strong believe in the importance of a diverse society.

ÜBER DIE KÜNSTLERIN

Annton Beate Schmidt, geboren 1968 in Frankfurt am Main, lebt und arbeitet in Brandenburg.

Im Vordergrund der Arbeiten der zeitgenössischen Malerin Annton Beate Schmidt stehen Menschen und die Bandbreite ihrer Emotionen. Ob aus einer sozialphilosophischen Perspektive heraus oder auf einer sehr persönlichen Ebene, etwa in einer Vielzahl von Selbstporträts, befasst sie sich mit der Viefalt unseres Daseins. In klaren Farben und nahezu minimalistischen Kompositionen, die von nichts ablenken, entstehen so Beobachtungen des Wesentlichen. Ein Versuch, die Geschichte hinter einer Momentaufnahme einzufangen.

Als ausgebildete Film- und Fernsehcutterin hat Annton Beate Schmidt an vielen Produktionen mitgewirkt, hat Drehbücher geschrieben und diverse Kurzfilme produziert. Im Jahre 2001 zog sie nach Auckland | Neuseeland und arbeitet seitdem hauptberuflich als bildende Künstlerin. Nach ihrer Rückkehr nach Berlin, eröffnete sie 2008 das Atelier Schmidt in Neukölln. In einem alten Ladengeschäft gelegen, ein Ort in dem nicht nur gearbeitet wurde, sondern in dem auch regelmäßig Veranstaltungen und Ausstellungen stattfanden.

Die filmische Sprache, das Erzählen von Geschichten, ist auch in ihren aktuellen Arbeiten wiederzufinden. Porträts von Frauen, Gesichter mit der Schönheit von Diversität und des Widersprüchlichen.

Im Mai 2020 hat Annton Beate Schmidt außerdem das WOMEN LAUGHING PROJECT ins Leben gerufen.

Ihre Arbeiten befinden sich zunehmend in internationalen Privatsammlungen, etwa den USA, Neuseeland oder Uruguay und erfahren auch lokal immer größere Aufmerksamkeit.

Annton Beate Schmidt was born 1968 in Frankfurt | Main and lives and works in Brandenburg.

The focus of contempory artist Annton Beate Schmidt is on the human being and on our spectrum of emotions. Be it from a social-philosophical approach or from a very personal level, like numerous self portraits, she engages with the diversity of our existence. Using pure colors within almost minimalistic compositions, she creates observations of our essence. An attempt to catch the story behind a snapshot.

Classically trained as a movie and television editor, Annton Beate Schmidt took part in a wide range of projects, wrote screenplays and produced several short movies. In 2001, she relocated to Auckland | New Zealand and since then, is working full time as a fine artist. In 2008, after she had returned to Berlin, resulting in the opening of Atelier Schmidt in Neukölln. Located in an old front store, a place not only to work in, but also for events and exhibitions.

The cinematic language, the art of story telling, it is deeply routed in her current work as well. Female portraits, faces with the beauty of diversity and contradiction.

In May 2020 Annton Beate Schmidt has also started the WOMEN LAUGHING PROJECT.

Her works can be found in many private collections in the US, New Zealand or Uruguay and are gaining a growing local following.
